******************************* IMPORTANT NEWS **********************************

A new state law took effect Aug. 1 banning drivers from talking on the phone unless they are using a hands-free device. Officials say the law is aimed at cracking down on distracted driving and saving lives.

A first offense will cost $130. The fine jumps to over $300 for subsequent violations.

Drivers can still operate a cellphone by voice commands or single-touch activation as long as they’re not holding the phone.

Gov. Tim Walz and state safety officials have been reminding drivers it’s time to put down the phone. Minnesota already bans texting and emailing while driving.

The Public Safety Department has posted tips at HandsFreeMN.org.

    • All you would have to do is come in and pay the $50 re-enrollment fee and then we can see what is left to do

Hi! I’m a Public Defender in Hennepin County and have given your number to many people. I just tried calling it and it had a voicemail for a John Smith? Is that right?

Also do my clients need to show proof of having a public defender to be eligible for the reduction in the $685 reinstatement fee and if so is our business card enough?

    Thank you!

    • I’m sorry I missed your call yes my name is johnathon smith I forward office phone to a business cell phone and the business card wouldn’t be enough I submit the roa for a recent case that shows a public defender was granted for the client.
